After the trailer teased some significant family changes, reality TV viewers have been eagerly awaited the sixth season of The Kardashians. There was also a lot of rumor that Khloe might have reconciled with basketball player Lamar Odom after seeing her ex-husband in the trailer.
Although the former couple’s marriage appears to be in good standing right now, their relationship went through a lot, from cheating scandals to fertility issues.
Here’s a look back at their marriage, from how they met to why they split.
Khloe and Lamar’s relationship ended, and when?
Khloe and Lamar met in 2009 at a party held by his fellow NBA player Metta Sandiford-Artest. Then, just one month after their first meeting, they married, shocking the audience. According to People magazine, they married at a “private residence in Beverly Hills” with Khloe, aged 25 at the time, opting for a Vera Wang wedding dress.
Phones were prohibited from the intimate ceremony, which was followed by a Babyface-themed nightclub reception. Once married, Khloe changed her name to Khloe Kardashian Odom.
What happened during their relationship?
As with most of the Kardashian marriages, the details of the relationship’s ups and downs were heavily covered in the news at the time. They even had their own spin-off reality show called Khloé &, Lamar which launched in 2011 and ran for two seasons.
Khloe and Lamar reportedly tried to conceive, and she frequently discussed her propensity issues. Khloe later revealed that she had “fake tried” for a baby and that she had secretly stopped fertility treatments due to their tense relationship.
Speaking on X, formerly Twitter, sister Kim said: “Khloé did start fertility]treatments] and she wanted to have a baby, but I believe in the middle of the process she realised timing wasn’t good based on what was going on with her relationship”.
Additionally, there were rumors that Lamar had cheated on her and that she had cheated on her. But in an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians from 2014, Khloe admitted to sister Kourtney that she knew Lamar had cheated, saying: “Let me tell you something! Last year on my birthday, I lied to everyone, because I had to lie and say I was with my husband, when in fact, my husband was missing with another girl! Okay”? !
Lamar later revealed that he had “full-blown relationships” with other women during his marriage. He reportedly had a year-long affair with an exotic dancer despite having been married to Khloe for six years. Speaking about his marriage, he admitted: “I didn’t treat that good woman right”.
An incident in a Nevada brothel hit the headlines in 2015, when Lamar suffered a near-fatal overdose. He had taken cocaine and other sexual enhancing drugs and was discovered unconscious at Carson City, Nevada’s legal brothel. Lamar suffered kidney failure, a heart attack, and several strokes, and was in a coma for days. He checked into rehab after being released from the hospital, and he has since been sober.
Khloe and Lamar broke up, but why?
Khloe’s January 29 episode of her podcast Khloe in Wonderland revealed the moment the Kardashian sister realized her marriage was over. Speaking to motivational speaker Mel Robbins, Khloe said: “I remember, I was married and my ex-husband had a drug addiction, and I knew that his addiction always heightened — he was in the NBA — and his addiction always heightened when he was in the off-season, cause idle time is the devil’s playground”.
Lamar’s relationship deteriorated when she was asked to join Team USA for the Olympics. She recalled: “I was begging, ‘ Please, please go to Team USA ‘ and I was pushing, and I remember he just looked at me and said, ‘ You can’t want it more than I do. ‘ I remember when he said, ‘ You can’t want it more than me ‘ and ‘ I don’t want it ‘ — it was so profound”. She added: “But he just wasn’t in that place”.
Khloe went on to say: “It took me a long time to get to, then I had to file for divorce. That was a very pivotal moment in my life because I remember that statement being like…’Yeah, you’re right. I can’t want your life more than you. ‘”
After months of speculation, Khloe filed for divorce on December 13, 2013, but withdrew her petition after the incident in Nevada. The divorce between Khloe and Lamar was ultimately settled in December 2016.
Disney+ will release The Kardashians season six on February 6 with additional episodes scheduled for every Thursday until April 10.
