According to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA), India has submitted a bid to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games in Ahmedabad in the hopes that it will help it prepare for the 2036 Olympics.
The bid proposal was submitted on Friday by an IOA delegation to the Commonwealth Sport HQ in London.
In a telephone call from London that was made, IOA Executive Council member Harpal Singh said, “This is not just a bid to stage a sporting event. We are committed to the Commonwealth family to deliver Games that are athlete-centred, inclusive, sustainable, and future-facing.”
“We want to use this milestone to preserve the Games’ relevance, impact, and viability for the upcoming century,” says our vision, “not just to honor the past but also to prepare the way for the future.”
On Wednesday, India’s federal government approved signing the Host Collaboration Agreement (HCA) and provided the necessary guarantees from the relevant ministries.
It was a “proud moment,” according to Singh, who is also a member of the Commonwealth Sport sports committee, that brought India closer to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “vision of bringing the Olympics 2036 to India.”
“Successfully hosting the Commonwealth Games will demonstrate our nation’s capability, strengthen our international reputation, and lay the groundwork for the upcoming Olympic journey,” Singh continued.
The host city for the 2030 Games will be announced at the Commonwealth Sport General Assembly in Glasgow in November, along with Canada and Nigeria.

In recent years, the multi-sports gathering of mostly former British colonies struggled to find supporters.
After the original host, the Australian state of Victoria, pulled out due to rising costs, Glasgow, Scotland will host a smaller version of the Games in 2017.
