Guwahati’s second day of five test

South Africa 489: Muthusamy 109, Jansen 93, Kuldeep 4-115

India 9-0: Jaiswal 7*

By 480, India is in the lead.

After South Africa scored 489 on day two of the second Test in Guwahati, India must now face a difficult task to prevent a further home Test series defeat.

Senuran Muthusamy and Marco Jansen, who are 1-0 up in the two-match series, frustrated the hosts by keeping them on the field for the majority of the day, while Marco Jansen, who is a career-best 93, scored their first Test century.

Muthusamy returned with a 25-run lead after splitting a stand of 88 with Verreyne and 97 with Jansen before being dismissed for 109 from 206 balls.

Jansen scored the winning run with seven sixes in his 91-ball knock, Muthusamy ducked in.

No team has ever conceded a Test run in the opening innings of a match in India before losing.

After just 6.1 overs of their reply, the umpires’ frustration was made even worse by. They were 9-0.

India hasn’t lost a Test series away from home for 12 years, until New Zealand defeated them 3-3 last year.
