A member of the House of Representatives, Alex Ikwechegh, has jocularly said that his squabble with a Bolt driver in Abuja in October 2024 increased his popularity among Nigerians as “the man that makes things to disappear”.
Ikwechegh, who was a guest on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily programme on Tuesday, said he has moved on from the episode and has built a friendship with the e-hailing driver, Stephen Abuwatseya.
Ikwechegh, who runs for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), represents Aba North & South Federal Constituency in the Green Chamber.
He claimed, “What happened was quite unfortunate, but I take it as a way for me to also cultivate a relationship with the young man.” Today, we are friends. The court dismissed my claim after the court found no merit.
Everyone thought the video was a low point. I felt the sanctity of my home was being desecrated. People do not know what transpired prior to the portion of the video that you people saw. Like they say, actions pre-empt reactions.
“But what anyone has seen doesn’t really show me who I am,” he said. There has never been a scandal about me because I’ve spent a lot of time in public. However, the young man is now my friend, and I’ve made a lot of new friends with his pastor and bishop, and I’ve since made many friends. Today, Nigerians know me as the one who causes things to go away. We’ve moved on, it’s in the past now”.
“I Can Make You Disappear”: Reps Member Ikwechegh Caught Assaulting Bolt Driver Over Snail Delivery
Ikwechegh can be seen furiously confronting and punching the driver in the video while making threats. “Is this rat something you can picture? ” I can make this man disappear in this… pic. twitter.com/ZQx7aw0rdQ
When Ikwechegh assaulting Abuwatseya was captured on camera in October, Nigerians were furious.
Ikwechegh was seen making threatening remarks and verbally abusing the driver in the video. This rat, can you picture it? Nothing will happen if I force this man to vanish completely throughout Nigeria.
According to the conversation that was reportedly sparked by the viral video, the lawmaker had ordered some snails from a vendor who had used an e-hailing App driver to deliver the goods.
When the Bolt driver arrived at the lawmaker’s residence and demanded payment, the lawmaker argued that the driver had disrespected the lawmaker because he had not taken a step back to deliver the goods.
The driver, who kept his composure despite the assault, received three slaps from the APGA lawmaker. The victim was being asked to call the Inspector General of Police for assistance by the lawmaker.
