I’m A Celeb finalist Richard Coles heartbreaking tribute to partner five years on from his death

Richard Coles, a late husband, tragically passed away five years ago, in a moving tribute on social media.

The 62-year-old, who recently finished in third place on I’m A Celebrity… Get Me posted an emotional tribute on his Twitter/X page on Tuesday on what would have been Reverend David Coles ‘ 48th birthday. In a photo of David standing in front of the pair’s four dogs, Richard shared a photo of the pair.

He captioned the post: “David’s birthday today. He would have had eighteen years. RIP”.

Fans were quick to express their condolences and support for the star in the response section. One user wrote: “What a fabulous photo. I adore how normal it is. Without him, I can’t imagine how we ended up together and how I will handle life now that I’m in my last days with my life’s love. Such a lovely, funny person.

Another added: “It’s mine today, first one without my dad in 45 years, we lost him in September, it’s so hard Richard but we have to strong, we are placing his memorial plaque today too, im a big mess. On this challenging day, xx, I’m sending you hugs. Richard sweetly replied with a one word response: “Solidarity”!

A third follower said: “Omg that’s so young. Sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace”, while a fourth wrote: “Huge hug x”

Before David’s passing in 2019, Richard and David were together for 12 years. David, also a clergyman, was only 43 when he died of liver disease in 2019, caused by an alcohol addiction that had gripped him since his teenage years.

Richard had previously addressed his grief, saying: “I frequently believe that people file someone who dies of drink as they used to say under a sort of tragic, qualid death. David was a lot more than that. Before we could talk about what killed him, I wanted to understand why David was so significant to those who loved him.

In 2007, Richard and David first met. Three years later, David took Richard’s surname as his legal name when they forged a civil partnership. At the time, Richard assured the church their relationship was celibate. He recently admitted that this was a lie to keep his position as a vicar, though. He said in an interview with The Times, “Sometimes, I felt like I was in the resistance and the Gestapo was in charge.”

Richard shared his previous relationships with campmates while he was a campmate in the I’m A Celeb jungle while he was in Australia. He spoke with McFly’s eventual winner Danny Jones about their initial interactions. He said: “I came to preach a sermon in his church and he sort of picked me up afterwards!

He said, “He heard me preach, and he later said, “He might be interested in getting ordained, and I should talk to him about it.” So he came over for lunch on Sunday, and it was all very formal and professional.
