IKEDC Incident: No Tolerance For Indiscipline, Military Vows Sanctions

The Defense Headquarters has declared that anyone found guilty will be punished and that the incident involving some soldiers at the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company from a few weeks ago is being looked into.

Armed men in military uniform stormed the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company’s headquarters in Ikeja, Lagos State, according to a viral video that emerged a few weeks ago, with some employees seen fleeing for safety.

Rear Admiral Olusanya Bankole, the head of defense civil-military relations at the Defense Headquarters, acknowledged that the incident had underlying causes and made an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunrise Daily program on Friday. He argued, however, that the behavior in the video does not in any way reflect the military’s attitude.

The Defense Department and the Nigerian Air Force’s main office are concerned about what transpired at Ikeja Disco. Whatever punishments must be imposed.

Rear Admiral Bankole stated that there is no tolerance for that kind of conflict because of the underlying issues being resolved between the Air Force and the IKDC.

He claimed that the military has increased its awareness campaigns and is now telling people they are always ready to protect them. He reaffirmed the importance of a friendly relationship between the military and civilians, arguing that the military requires people’s intelligence to carry out its duties.

Rear Admiral Bankole claims that people shouldn’t be afraid when they see people wearing military garb because they are there to protect them.

People shouldn’t be afraid to look up at men dressed in uniform because they are supposed to protect you. Even from the NDA to the NDC, that sensibilization is present even from the Zaria depot.

“The military career is a noble career, but we are protecting humans, not the territorial integrity of the society,” he said.
