The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, has warned police officers in the country against rights violations, and other misconduct.
In a virtual meeting with police managers on Monday, the IGP said, “No operative should be seen carrying assault weapons (rifles),” according to Force Spokesman Muyiwa Adejobi.
Through the Force’s complaint channels, the IGP claimed to have received a number of complaints about rights violations. He warned that any violation of human rights would result in severe punishment.
The IGP also urged all tactical squads to avoid power-using and improper clothing, stressing the importance of wearing approved uniforms, the statement’s language, which was translated into parts.
All tactical squads must be properly dressed in the appropriate uniform to ensure compliance with the established operating procedure.
