After the move to Wednesday for the second leg of their Nations League play-off against Iceland, Northern Ireland manager Tanya Oxtoby claims it has been a “challenging day.”
The Laugardalsvollur Stadium in Reykjavik was scheduled for Tuesday at 18:00 GMT, but heavy snow prevented the play-off.
The event will now take place on Wednesday at 17:00 GMT in the Icelandic capital of Laugardalur, which has an artificial pitch.
This already tight-knit group has grown even closer thanks to today, Oxtoby said.
The weather situation was, of course, beyond anyone’s control, and the conditions in which we were prepared fared from what I would classify as a high-performance environment.
The KSI, the country’s football association, claims Uefa “in consultation” with the KSI and Irish FA to decide whether to hold the game on Wednesday rather than move it to the upcoming international window in November.
Irish FA President Conrad Kirkwood and Irish FA CEO Patrick Nelson said they were working with Uefa to “find a solution.”
The Australian continued, “We now have clarity, and the team will be ready and focused for the game, despite it’s not an ideal scenario.”
The updated game will be available for live streaming on BBC iPlayer, the BBC Sport app, and the website.
Glodis Viggosdottir and Ingibjorg Sigurdardottir scored the goals that gave Iceland a two-goal lead going into Friday’s first leg in Ballymena.
