Rod Stewart made sure to include some of his enduring musical friends at this year’s Glastonbury, which he did adamantly.
It was a family affair for Sir Rod Stewart as he returning to Glastonbury for the first time in over two decades.
Fans of all ages watched him power with their parents as the crowd poured into the 90-minute set. There was no generation among the tens of thousands who praised his performance.
The 80-year-old Maggie May rocker pulled off all the stops for the Sunday Legends Slot at the Pyramid Stage, where special guests Ronnie Wood, Lulu, and Mick Hucknull performed his classics.
Rod’s family, who mingled with fans and supported the legendary singer before his big day, was the real stars of the show, though.
Just hours before Rod took to the stage, his wife Penny Lancaster put on quite the show herself as she mingled with his fans in the VIP bar.
The Loose Women star – and Rod’s older sons, dressed in his trademark leopard print – looked every inch the proud family as they laughed and joked with people excited to see their loved one’s big moment.
Penny had a good time meeting up with her friends before watching her husband’s show, so she took selfies with hard-core fans while battling the heat.
But Penny’s work to ensure Rod’s set went smoothly started way before today. Speaking to the Mirror ahead of the show, an insider revealed how Rod went to military-like lengths to ensure all went to plan.
The star has been taking vocal rest to make sure his raspy voice is firing on all cylinders, despite being super-fit from swimming in his pool four times per week.
Rod is a chatterbox, but he knows he needs to preserve his voice, which is his biggest asset, says our mole. “It’s been quite difficult. This week, Penny and his entire band have been performing at a secret location.
It seemed Rod wanted to give back to Penny while on the Pyramid Stage as he gave a touching nod to his supportive wife. Near the start of his show, he threw in the classic First Cut Is The Deepest.
Rod first released the song Cat Stephens on tape in 1976. And he did it again, which was fantastic entertainment for the audience. However, it appeared to be him giving his wife of 18 years, Penny, a sweet nod, to eagle-eyed fans.
Rod snarled and wryly smiled as he sang the line, “I still want you by my side.”
Rod’s wife had to provide better PR, which he could not have asked for. They have a very lucky fan base if she can accurately represent how he treats his supporters.
