Former world champion Sandy Ryan tells her story in a letter from Mikaela Mayer’s column from yesterday before their fight in New York in September.
On a fight night, I was getting ready to go to the venue and meeting my team at reception.
I was suddenly struck by a can of paint, and a man came running back to his car as I looked up. It’s a hit-and-run, you might say.
It wasn’t the usual fight night, so that was three hours before the fight started.
I didn’t notice the approaching person. I saw red as I looked down. At the time, it was a little shock.
Because no one pursued him, everyone around me must have been shocked. If my brother, Dave, had visited, things would have been significantly different, and he will attend on Saturday.
When we were approaching the car, two Mikaela’s team members remained lingering around the bar and at reception.
We didn’t think much of it, though, because we were all staying in the same hotel at the time.
When we returned to the car and the venue, I had a security guard with me while I was changing and taking a shower.
The security guard’s phone signaled that Sandy Ryan was in the car and would arrive in three minutes, which made it feel like a movie. Prepare all the doors’.
I’ve already accomplished everything.

When I arrived in the changing area, I activated “fight mode.” I was already anticipating moving forward.
I don’t regret fighting any longer. I also understand the motivations behind my coach’s decision to pull me out. There was nothing he could say to stop me because I’m a fighter and respect his opinion.
At the time, I was already so furious. Three hours prior to the start of the fight, I was prepared.
Any fighter will not act in jest three hours before a fight if you speak to them.
You’re attempting to relax, get your mind to relax, and reflect on the fight. You have a full schedule in place, and any minor turbulence will be felt. Another thing is getting paint all over me.
But I’m already past it.
This time, I’ll win and keep that belt at the end of the match. I am certain that Sandy will prevail over Mikaela with a calm mind, calm heart, and relaxed mind.
Let’s travel to England for a third fight, you ask.
This rivalry will always be discussed, which is a good thing. We are now heading into Las Vegas once more as a result.
Make that the headline as well as the “paint-gate” incident.
Although the media wants to make a headline, Las Vegas should have two female artists performing.
That is a great accomplishment, both for the future women who will see that we can do it.
They will certainly feel more inspired to see where I and Mikaela are right now thanks to it.
I’d like to return to the UK and compete against her in a third round.
It’s now England’s turn since I’ve previously been in the US. Let me accomplish this task, and I’m hoping to be successful.
