In the Old Roan Chase at Aintree, Hitman, who is named after Ricky Hatton, won his first race since the boxer’s passing.
The nine-year-old, who trained under Paul Nicholls, won by two lengths over Master Chewy, according to co-owner Ged Mason, who stated that the prize money, worth £45,560, will be donated to the Ricky Hatton Foundation.
“Absolutely delighted that we can contribute to Ricky’s legacy and memory in some ways. The foundation has been established, according to Mason, who spoke to Racing TV.
Hatton, 46, was found dead in his Manchester home in September.
The Hitman has been a nickname throughout his boxing career for the two-weight world champion.
At Aintree, Freddie Gingell, the jockey, watched on as his long-term manager and friend Paul Speak rode Hitman to victory.
He’s probably smiling and looking down at us, Speak said.
