Rangers defeated Aberdeen 5-0 to set up a Women’s Scottish Cup final match between Glasgow City and Jane Ross, who scored a hat-trick.

Rangers defeated Motherwell 4-0 in the semi-finale of City, despite not quite delivering the desired performance.

Ross was accompanied on the scoresheet by Lizzie Arnot and Rio Hardy.

Rangers put pressure on Rangers right away, but Aberdeen goalkeeper Annalisa McCann and her defense held back attempts from Arnot and Katie Wilkinson.

Ross opened the scoring from six yards as a result of Mia McAulay’s run down the right.

Kerry Beattie of Aberdeen then burst down the wing and sent in Francesca Ogilivie a fine ball in a special foray forward. Unfortunately, May Cruft, 15, was present to fend off any danger, which was unfortunate for her because it was her second competitive start for Rangers.

Arnot showed a sporadic lack of accuracy in front of goal, which Rangers should have doubled in the lead after 33 minutes.

When McCann went out for a long ball, Hardy scored the second, but Ross unselfishly squared for him to roll into an empty net.

Aberdeen, who had been improving their defense and progressing, suffered a cruel blow.

Rangers extended their lead when Ross was slowed to safety by half-time substitute Brogan Hay, who controlled with her chest before winning.

Aberdeen were obviously getting tired of their full-time opponents, but Eva Thompson did a fantastic job of making a timely tackle just as Cruft was about to unleash a shot.

Rangers did give their performance some shine. When McCann’s save from Arnot fell to the Scotland international almost on the goalline, Ross completed her hat-trick by pouncing on a rebound.

And in the final moments, Ross abruptly turned provider for Arnot.

Aberdeen will take some advantages from their first game at Hampden as they work to keep up their top flight status.

Rangers may not have been at their best, but they are still in line for a domestic championship title after winning the SWPL Cup in March.

In the SWPL encounter on Wednesday, which is live on BBC Alba, iPlayer, and the BBC Sport website and app, they will face City, who will be their future Hampden opponents.

What they said

Jo Potter, the Rangers’ head coach, said, “They made it difficult for us today. Today, it was about completing a task and advancing to the final. We needed a clean sheet. Some really nice goals from Jane led to a job well done for us.

Picking a team is not simple. There is a lot of quality there. We assign them all production, and the squad includes many of the best goalscorers. The best in each other is being brought out by that competition.

Scott Booth, head coach of Aberdeen, said, “We always knew it would be a difficult game.” For the majority of the game, we managed to stick with Rangers, but tiredness persisted.
