As the final whistle came to an encoreble day for Manchester City, BBC Radio 5 Live commentator John Murray said, “This feels like a new low for the defending Premier League champions.”
After beating Arsenal 5-1, City are 15 points clear of leaders Liverpool, who have won five of their previous six English titles, despite the fact that the title has been largely overdue.
For the first time in Pep Guardiola’s trophy-laden managerial career, his team have conceded four or more goals in four different games in one season.
They have let in 53 goals in 36 games – only one off the last campaign’s total of 54 goals conceded (in 59 games).
“It’s sad to see”, said former City defender Micah Richards on Sky Sports.
“I don’t expect them to win the league every year, but the fall-off has been so dramatic.
What happened at the Emirates?
Martin Odegaard, the captain of Arsenal, capitalized on a defensive error to extend the lead in the second half.
This season, City have committed eight Premier League errors, the most of which came under the leadership of Guardiola.
In the 55th minute, Erling Haaland gave City the lead with a fantastic header, and from there, you wondered if they would find their groove and win.
But what happened was the exact opposite. Arsenal continued to instruct them after they imploded.
Before Thomas Partey restored the lead, City were only level for 105 seconds.
A Kai Havertz goal was sandwiched between Myles Lewis-Skelly and Ethan Nwaneri’s goals.
As Nwaneri struck number five, Radio 5 Live summariser Matt Upson declared that” Man City are completely broken”.
It swung the wrong way for us, according to the statement.
Anyone from City who later spoke to the media had a good understanding of the time when things all went wrong.
It’s difficult to describe immediately after a game like that. Pride hurts. Sorry to the fans who have traveled to the area to watch that, defender John Stones told Sky Sports.
” How we played in the last 30 minutes was not acceptable.
“For 65 minutes, we played some great football at times. It was a pivotal point for us as we were playing. For us, it swung the wrong way. I am angry, upset personally and collectively about how the game finished”.
Guardiola, speaking to the BBC, said: “I only regret the last 25 minutes.
” We forgot to do what we should do, what we have done for 65 or 70 minutes.

No corner has been turned
Over the past few years, City have won four straight titles and five out of six games.
The Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League victories have been celebrated more than 18 months.
At the start of November, they were unbeaten in 32 Premier League games.
A win over Nottingham Forest followed a six-game losing streak that started in late October, followed by three more games without a win.
Other lows have included a 4-1 loss to Sporting, a 2-1 derby defeat by Manchester United, a 4-0 home reverse against Tottenham, and blowing a 3-0 lead to draw 3-3 with Feyenoord.
The Champions League defeat against Arsenal was just another example of how far they have come, despite their only defeat this year coming against Paris St-Germain.
The club will discover their punishment for allegedly breaking 115 Premier League rules this season, but there are other issues that are on the pitch as well.
Guardiola said: “It’s happened all season, we are giving away too many things. We are aware this cannot happen, it happened”.
City have 41 points – their lowest tally after 24 league games since 2008/09.
