Fans are excited to learn that a Harry Potter movie star is joining the original cast for a Broadway production after revealing they will play the role for the first time.
As the production moves to Broadway, a household name from the Harry Potter series is expected to reprise his role. One of the original cast members will reprise their role in the stage adaptation for the first time.
Tom Felton is ready to portray bad guy Draco Malfoy in the production of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child. The show first opened in London’s West End in 2016 before it headed to New York two years later.
Tom will play the role at the Lyric Theatre in New York. He will start playing on November 11 for 19 weeks.
Speaking of his latest role, Tom said: “It’s surreal to be stepping back into his shoes – and of course his iconic platinum blond hair – and I am thrilled to be able to see his story through and to share it with the greatest fan community in the world.”
The 37-year-old actor made his first movie appearance in 2021. Up until 2011, he starred alongside actors like Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe.
Tom said: “Being a part of the Harry Potter films has been one of my greatest honors.” In a statement for his most recent role, Tom stated: “. I’ll be the exact age Draco is in the play when I begin performances in Cursed Child this fall, so joining this production will be a full-circle moment.
He continued, “I look forward to joining this incredible company and being a part of the Broadway community.”
After posting a teaser clip regarding his role on Instagram, fans were quick to share their excitement. Tom was seen in the upload wearing a blonde wig and black robes to show off his Draco transformation.
He is reportedly referred to as “Scared, Potter”? as he put the caption to the upload, “Guess who’s back” One follower gushed, “Harry Potter fans are currently losing their minds.” This is “ABWORE”!
Another person expressed their excitement over this. I’m going in March, but it’s until my birthday. And a third person expressed gratitude for Draco’s “war we deserved 19 years later.”
Tom will join the original cast as the first actor to play a stage role in a production. Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco all send their own children to Hogwarts, which happens 19 years after the original story’s conclusion.
It has sold more than 10 million tickets to date in over 10 different countries. Sonia Friedman and Colin Callender, the producers of his Broadway debut, were delighted to see him included.
They jointly stated in a statement that “it is not lost on us that this is a cultural moment with nostalgia, evolution, and emotion.”
Tom’s return to Hogwarts reaches new heights and inspires new life in a cherished tale. We’re beyond thrilled to have Tom back in our Broadway company as well as “home.”
