As former Australia Under-19 batsman Harjas Singh smashed a remarkable 314 not out of 141 balls in the grade competition, Sydney’s domestic cricket fans were forced to duck for cover.

As his Western Suburbs team came to a 483-5 victory over 50 overs on Saturday, the 20-year-old blitzed 35 sixes and 14 fours.

Victor Trumper’s 335 in 1903 and Phil Jaques’ 321 in 2007 are the only two players with the third-highest score in Sydney first grade history, which is close to the level of professional state cricket.

For sure, that is the cleanest ball striking I’ve ever witnessed from myself, Singh told Fox Cricket.

“I’m quite proud of it because I’ve worked a lot during the off-season with my power hitting, and it was quite special for it to come off today.”

Singh made 214 from his next 67 deliveries, reaching his century with 74 balls in the 35th over.

Unsurprisingly, Western Suburbs’ rival Sydney couldn’t find their way to finish with a 287-8 victory over Singh’s side.

Singh was a member of the Australia Under-19 World Cup winning team in February of 2024, leading the nation with 55 goals in their 5-0 victory over India. He is still negotiating with state side New South Wales as a rookie.

Sam Kontas has already experienced rapid growth in the Australia Test team, with his World Cup-winning side already enjoying high regard.

On Australia A’s most recent tour of India, team-mates Oliver Peake, Harry Dixon, and Tom Straker featured in the team’s ODI squad, and another seamer, Callum Vidler, was injured. Last year, Oliver Peake, Harry Dixon, and Tom Straker also featured on the team’s recent tour of England.
