After presiding over a new three-year contract with Nottingham Forest, Morgan Gibbs-White says he wants to be “part of something special.”
After Tottenham expressed interest in the England international, the 25-year-old’s future was uncertain.
As Spurs attempted to eject a £60 million release clause from his contract, BBC Sport reported earlier this month that Gibbs-White was scheduled to undergo a medical.
However, Forest have been looking into whether a particular confidentiality agreement in the release clause had been violated in relation to the north London club.
After leaving Wolves for Forest in a deal worth up to £42.50m in August 2022, Gibbs-White had two years left on his previous deal.
In 118 games for the Reds, he helped the team finish seventh last season and earn a spot in Europe. He has 18 goals and 28 assists.
From the moment I arrived at Forest, I felt at home,” said Gibbs-White. “The support from the fans, my team-mates, and everyone else at the club is incredible.
I firmly believe in what we’re building, and I want to contribute to creating something special with the support of [owner] Mr. Marinakis and his enormous ambition. I’m looking forward to the future.
There were a lot of clubs’ interest, according to Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis, but Morgan was the driving force behind our future.
“I promised to our fans that we would continue to grow stronger and stronger each season.” This is a significant step in the right direction.
Sources earlier this month claimed Forest were angry with Tottenham’s actions in their pursuit of the England international and that the threat to file a lawsuit was legitimate.
According to reports, Forest allegedly argued that Spurs had not been given permission to speak with Gibbs-White and that they would go to any lengths to stop the transfer.
Clubs are prohibited from speaking with players who are contracted with another team in accordance with Premier League rules, which prohibit them from doing so.
