Getting West Ham fans back onside is ‘main priority’ – Nuno

Nuno Espirito Santo, West Ham’s new manager, claims his team’s “main priority” is bringing the club’s fans and players closer together, but he also acknowledges that “a lot of work” needs to be done.

In Nuno’s first game as manager of the Hammers since Graham Potter’s replacement, chants of “sack the board” were audible during Monday’s 1-1 draw at Everton.

However, the former Tottenham and Nottingham Forest boss turned his players over to the visiting supporters at the end of the game in a show of unity and togetherness after Jarrod Bowen’s equalizer in the second half had given them a spirited point.

He said, “I think what’s important is to appreciate what our fans did by visiting Liverpool on a Monday night and supporting them there.” We make it our top priority to win over our fans, he said.

We must deliver in order for them to appreciate the boys’ efforts. It’s crucial to move forward.

Nuno said his players “will embrace the challenge” after starting his tenure with a point on the road.

The Portuguese manager said, “I think the team did well.” A very good team, with a tough, challenging environment to enter.

“Overall, it was a good game that had both teams having chances. How can we now compete against other teams, as we [the players] know.

Nuno stated that he has focused on making incremental adjustments rather than altering West Ham’s tactics too frequently.

The Hammers’ statistics against Everton compared to those for the rest of the season, which were not all that different.

Given Nuno has been in charge for two days and that he is “starting” the “small steps” required for change, that was expected.

Even though they had fewer shots on target than their average in their previous five Premier League games, their 14 shots were higher than their average of 10.2.

The most notable thing was that they managed 29 touches in Everton’s box while only managing 19 in each of their previous league games.

The transitions, which involved Crysencio Summerville being involved in many of Everton’s attacking moves, were marginally more direct in their play, with 13.8% of their passes being played long compared to 11.6% previously.

Bowen continued Nuno’s approach to the game as being “simple and basic.”

The West Ham goalkeeper stated on BBC Radio 5 Live, “There wasn’t a lot of change because he understood there were only two days and it’s been a lot for the players.” He simply kept it straightforward and basic.

We have a really strong group of people who want to succeed and leave us at this position. We look at ourselves and accept responsibility because we play week in and week out regardless of any manager changes.
