Following a delayed flight, British cyclist Finlay Pickering accepted a late call-up for his first Vuelta a Espana and made his 200-kilometer taxi ride.

Less than 24 hours before Saturday’s opening stage, the 22-year-old was asked to replace Bahrain Victorious team-mate Damiano Caruso, who was injured.

Pickering took a taxi from Andorra to Toulouse before taking a flight to Turin, only to be able to accept the call after being late for a training trip.

He arrived at the race with only his hand luggage and, thankfully, his shoes, a delay, which caused him to arrive late.

Although the Yorkshireman’s first stage at a Grand Tour race was far from ideal, he managed to finish stage one in 153rd place.

“It was actually very fortunate,” she said. I was a little late going out of training because I had a problem with two training wheels because they were in a bike shop.

How quickly can I be in an airport when I received a call from management saying that I was picking them up?

I didn’t receive my suitcase because the first flight was delayed. But at least I’ve got two pairs of shoes in my hand luggage, ready to begin.

No stress because I have a set of boxers and socks, and the team is excellent at taking care of me.

Before beginning the Vuelta, he continued, “I’m pretty ready. Even though it’s a pretty big race, I’m a rider, and this is one of them.
