Noel Mooney, the head of Wales’ football team, claims that “being a part of the Team GB at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics is not on our radar at all.”

After the Paris Games, the British Olympic Association (BOA) announced that it was looking for a Great Britain men’s football team to play in LA for the first time since London 2012 in response to the British Olympic Association (BOA).

Five Welshmen made up Stuart Pearce’s squad to compete on home soil, putting an end to a 52-year wait for the Olympic men’s football team.

Sophie Ingle, a former Wales captain, was a member of a 22-strong squad that included a GB women’s team when it last competed in the Olympics in Tokyo 2020.

Former BOA CEO Andy Anson, who resigned from his position in July, stated after Paris that the organization would be in talks with the national football associations of England, Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland to create a Team GB men’s football team for the LA Olympics.

Scotland, Wales, and Northern Ireland have long believed that competing in the Olympics as a single entity might threaten their independence.

Chief Executive of the Football Association of Wales, Mooney, told the PA news agency, “The Olympics are not on our radar at any level.”

“I’ve never had any conversations with anyone about it, and I haven’t heard a word.”

Clubs could oppose the release of their players to play Olympic football in an increasingly congested calendar in addition to the BOA facing potential opposition from the home associations.

Although the football competitions actually begin two days before the opening ceremony, the LA Olympics are scheduled to take place from July 14 through July 30.

The Games will begin a few weeks before the new domestic season and shortly after the Euro 2028 tournament, which is co-hosted by England, Scotland, Wales, and the Republic of Ireland.

Mooney once said, “We are responsible for making sure we represent ourselves in the right way at the Olympics, I guess.
