GB & Ireland beat Europe to win Vagliano Trophy

In their first victory over the Continent of Europe since 2005, Great Britain and Ireland defeated the continent.

The GB&amp, I women again held their nerve in the biennial match, winning 1211-112 at the Netherlands’ Royal Hague Golf &amp, Country Club, following last September’s Curtis Cup triumph over the United States.

I was led by GB&amp’s non-playing captain Maria Dunne, who had led them into the singles with Europe coming away with two early victories.

However, the GB&amp, I team fought back, winning all three of Patience Rhodes, Nellie Ong, and Isla McDonald-O’Brien with one more win than Ireland’s Aine Donegan and Sophia Fullbrook, an additional England player, to claim their first victory in 20 years.

“It’s been a day of unbelievable magnitude,” said Dunne.

I told the team early this morning that today was really good for me. In the foursomes, they did their job, and the momentum just flew our way. I said to them last night, “keep fighting, keep fighting for every single point or half point,” and that’s exactly what they did.

The team that won the Curtis Cup again, including Hannah Darling, Donegan, Beth Coulter, Lottie Woad, and Rhodes, all played their parts.

After a tense finish, Fullbrook held her nerves and won the game against Emma Kaisa Dalgaard Bunch.

With a win of 111-612, Europe did have a good showing for the day.

It feels amazing that we lost by three points at Royal Dornoch in 2023, which is an accomplishment that we haven’t done since 2005,” said Dunne.

Before Aine scored that eagle on the 18th, Patience had an incredible finish to win her singles match. Being a captain is a great honor for me. I’m thrilled that I currently hold both the Curtis Cup and the Vagliano Trophy for GB&amp.

The team’s recent success in winning the Curtis Cup last year, in my opinion, helped this week. In our team meetings, I kept that belief and momentum in mind.
