Gary Lineker will soon leave Match of the Day after almost 30 years, giving him more time to enjoy his lavishly decorated home in London. It features a skilled kitchen and stunning decor.
Gary Lineker’s career has definitely had its ups and downs, but he’s always had a gorgeous home to go back to and relax after a long day in the spotlight. The football pro is well-known for having fronted Match of the Day for 26 years, and has an estimated net worth of around £30million for his efforts both on and off the pitch.
Using just a chunk of his wealth, Gary, 64, has made his home in the leafy West London borough of Richmond, with his home sitting in Barnes just beside the River Thames. Barnes is one of the most expensive areas of the capital, and Gary’s own abode is said to be worth a staggering £4million.
Unlike more private celebs, BBC star Gary often gives glimpses of his home on social media, showing off the space where he hosts countless celebs and even welcomed two refugees to live in 2020 and 2021 – whom he still keeps in touch with years later.
Along with footie plays, Gary appears to have a keen eye for interior design. Those who were invited to the beautiful home can enter via a stunning stained glass front door that leads to a hallway with a massive arched mirror and steps up.
The focal point of Gary’s city pad seems to be the kitchen, which he showed off while cooking for Piers Morgan in 2022. The large space is decked out to a professional standard, with very modern fittings.
Gary’s kitchen has white tiling, neutral colors, and gold hardware, making it appear even bigger. It is also very light and airy.
The sportsman appears to be a keen cook, and has a huge range oven opposite a marble kitchen island. It’s also decked out with plenty of cookbooks, pots and pans, and ingredients – and in photos from his evening with Piers, Gary sported a personalised apron reading: “Chef Gaz. The man, the myth, the legend.”
Another space where Gary often hangs out with his pals and four grown-up sons – who often seems to head over to visit their dad – is the living room. The front room is set right by a box bay window, streaming in plenty of natural light and giving a view of the tree-lined street.
A bright blue sofa covered in colorful cushions, along with artwork and patterned curtains, adds a lot of color to the space. Additionally, there is a magnificent fireplace between two armchairs in the space.
Gary also has a home cinema with a large screen and ottoman foot rests, as well as a home gym, nestled among the multi-million-pound house. The actor frequently posts selfies of his workouts, revealing heavy equipment and brick walls that have been exposed.
Four gold football boots, which he has obsessed with the beautiful game, hang on the wall next to the treadmill in a very Gary-like style decoration. And unlike many Londoners, he also has a generous private garden where his sons frequently take pictures while enjoying drinks outside in the summer.
Gary and Michelle Cockayne, who he married from 1986 to 2006, have two sons. Despite now being married to American entertainment lawyer Nate Greenwald, he was previously involved with model Danielle Bux, who continues to spend a lot of time with him at home.
Gary spoke about their unorthodox closeness to the Mirror, sharing: “Danielle and I are best mates, we still speak three times a day, we text all the time. When she comes to London she stays with me, and when I go to LA I see her.”
Gary claimed that his house isn’t always as active as it appears despite Danielle and the boys having stayed put. He stated to The Times in 2021, “I enjoy being independent. I am aware of how crazy it sounds. I’m surrounded by many people. I cook for my boys and have a lot of friends with them. I don’t feel alone. There are occasional odd dates, but nothing in terms of a lasting relationship.
