Adam Frost has long been open about how his family and he battled health issues, including how gardening helped him deal with dyslexia.
After a “rough” time at school, Gardeners’ World star Adam Frost has proudly described his son Oakley’s accomplishments. Adam, who had his son “struggled” with education before going to college to find “a purpose,” revealed that he had been diagnosed with ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) in his teens.
ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder that has an impact on brain development, and its symptoms include difficulty focusing, being unreliable, and being easily distracted.
Adam also faced challenges at school as a result of having dyslexia, a common learning difficulty that primarily causes issues with reading, writing, and spelling.
While he struggled with education, Adam turned his life around by forging a successful career in gardening with the guidance of the late Geoff Hamilton.
He cited the influence that gardening and professional instruction had on his success, saying: “These influences are very important. Like any 16-year-old who is a little lost and angry. having the feeling that you are playing a role in something by using your hands.
Despite his challenging time in education, Adam revealed that his son has continued to follow in his footsteps and has a hands-on career.
He claimed in a statement on the podcast My Time Capsule that “my boy had a difficult time at school and was diagnosed with ADHD just before his GCSEs.” He had a difficult childhood and, like many of us, he didn’t fit the system.
After undergoing stress during his A Levels, Adam advised Oakley to instead pursue an apprenticeship. He shared that he had gone outside and did some landscaping, that he was happy with the hard work and that he liked it. Then, we are encircled by stone where we live, and I suggested stonemasonry to him.
Adam noticed a significant change in his son just three months into the apprenticeship. He proudly said, “He’s carving stuff, he’s making stuff, he’s a different person.”
And when he comes home, he says, “So and so has shown me this” or “Look what I’ve done,” and you can tell that he has discovered his purpose in the last few months. You can just see a difference in him, and that’s really quite beautiful considering how long he hasn’t been doing it.
With his wife Sulina, his wife Sulina, his three children, Abi-Jde and Amber-Lily, are their three children.
In a previous interview, he opened up about the health battles his family has faced, including Sulina’s sepsis and his daughter being diagnosed with an eating disorder.
He stated on the Loose Ends podcast that “her mother was in a hospital and she ended up really poorly, she ended up with an eating disorder, like many 15-year-olds, and she had friends going through it at school.” That caused a lot of stress.
He continued, “Programmatically, for the first time since I was about 16 years old, I realized that my life is slightly chaotic. We recently made the decision to reduce our family so that I can spend more time with them. However, this does mean I have a smaller garden.
