Freddie Flintoff shows horrifying and vivid photos of the injuries he sustained in a Top Gear crash.

The full graphic details of Freddie Flintoff’s Top Gear car crash can now be seen by viewers in photos screened in his new documentary. The former England cricketer can be seen battered and bruised with blood on his face after he landed face first in the December 2022 accident.

The Disney+ film Flintoff also shows a close up of the three-wheeled car he was driving for the first time. Surgeon Jahrad Haq, who treated Flintoff, told the documentary the injuries were “very complex”.

He also had fractured and displaced parts of his upper jaw bone in addition to his hard and soft tissue injuries, broken teeth, lost teeth, and other teeth.

He also lost his lower lip, which he said was “he lost a really significant portion of his upper lip, which includes some of the skin and some of the underlying muscle.” According to Mr. Haq, the injuries were among the “top five” in terms of the degree of the injuries he had witnessed throughout his career.

The injuries were so bad that Freddie’s wife fought back tears when she saw him and warned their four children. She recalled in the documentary: “When I did see him, I walked in the room, and he was just in the bed, and he was bandaged up.

I’ve never seen anyone’s eyes so terrified like he does. And he just kept staring at me, which makes me believe he was aware of his bad behavior. To be fair, I managed to pull myself together without a single cry. Instead, I simply said, “It’s fine.” You’ll be fine, I assure you. I’m shocked at how amazing you appear.

You’ve just got to be as strong as you’ve ever been, I said to the kids before we left. Your father appears to be different at the moment. Although things will get better, I don’t want you to appear shocked or horrified because that will knock him out.

Andy doesn’t know that I’ve ever done that, but that was difficult. I still had a husband and the kids still had their father, so I was so appreciative of all those people.

For his part, Freddie fears the accident had ripped off his face. He said, “I looked down and there was blood coming down.” And I feared it the most because I didn’t believe I had a face. My face appeared to have fallen off. I was terrified to death.

A Morgan Super 3 car without a roof flipped in the collision at Dunsfold Park in Surrey.

The car is also depicted in the Disney+ documentary’s aftermath. It had a reinforcement windscreen, a bar covering my back, as Freddie once said. I’m therefore exposed.

“We’re probably doing about 40 or 45, they were showing me how to get the car going sideways, and the wheel came up at the front. It’s a funny thing rolling a car because there’s a point of no return, and everything slows down. It’s so weird.”

Before Freddie’s collision, Flintoff’s co-host Chris Harris claimed in September of that he had concerns about safety with Top Gear executives.

In response BBC Studios, which makes Top Gear, referred to an independent investigation in 2023 which found the show had complied with industry best practice, but that there were “learnings which would need to be rigorously applied” if Top Gear returned. The show is currently being rested after Freddie’s accident and bosses reached a financial settlement with him worth millions.
