Developing a Story
Sebastien Lecornu, the country’s prime minister, has resigned just weeks after taking office, causing a new level of political unrest.

President Emmanuel Macron accepted his close ally’s resignation, according to a statement from the French presidency on Monday.

Lecornu named his ministers on Sunday evening, almost a month after his appointment.

Although the cabinet’s lineup irritated both opponents and allies, its first meeting was scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Lecornu, a former defense minister, was Macron’s fifth prime minister in two years.
