Four people were seriously hurt over the weekend in the Alausa, Lagos, area of the city of Lagos, in a lone road traffic accident involving a fully loaded commercial bus.
The incident occurred when the bus, a painted commercial vehicle with the registration number KTU 69 YJ, veered off course and violently rammed into a streetlight pole, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA).
LASTMA stated in a statement that preliminary investigations revealed the driver had lost control of the vehicle and was heavily intoxicated at the time of the collision.
Significant injuries were caused by the collision’s impact, particularly for a couple seated in the middle of the bus, which caused a state of panic in the area.
The injured passengers were quickly rescued from the mangled vehicle thanks to LASTMA officers’ swift intervention.
Before the victims, which included the couple, two other passengers, a man and a woman, were handed over to the Lagos State Ambulance Service (LASAMBUS), emergency first aid was provided on-site.
After receiving treatment, they were taken to the Toll Gate Trauma and Emergency Center for further medical care.
