Forest got too ‘comfortable’ in shock loss at Swansea

After Swansea scored twice in stoppage time to send Nottingham Forest out of the Carabao Cup, Ange Postecoglou claims his players became too “comfortable.”

The Premier League side had already firmly in control of their third-round tie with two goals from Igor Jesus in the first half.

However, a goal from Cameron Burgess restored hope to the Swans, and Zan Vipotnik scored the winning goal in a stunning finale before Burgess’ second, an international from Australia, completed the feat.

“We had plenty of opportunities to finish them off, and a few decisions didn’t turn out the way we wanted,” said Forest boss Postecoglou.

You need to be aware of the warning signs, and I believe the young men became a little at ease at that point.

Players simply believed that it would end in that manner, and we have to pay a high price for it. We must continue to improve.

The former Spurs manager had promised that this would be the night Nuno Espirito Santo’s side at the City Ground started to appear on his legacy.

Instead, Postecoglou, who added: “Tonight was a great opportunity for us to progress in a cup and give ourselves an opportunity to that success,” gave the score a three-game lead.

Promising signals “descend”

Despite leading them to Europa League success last term, Forest showed signs of playing the Postecoglou brand of football. Postecoglou was fired by Tottenham in the summer despite his efforts to restore Forest to its former glory.

However, Postecoglou added: “We should have seen it out better than we did given Swansea’s late show.”

Some of the performances have positive aspects, but the main thing is that we’re out of cup competition when we should have progressed, which is true.

“Some promising performances were made, but when you realize we missed a chance to advance, all of that fades.”
