David Beckham, the former England international captain, received his knighthood from King Charles III at Windsor Castle on Tuesday, calling it his “proudest moment.”

The 50-year-old football player, who has represented England 115 times and some of the most prestigious clubs in the world, including Real Madrid and Manchester United, was awarded the knighthood for his contributions to sport and charity.

For a boy from the east end of London, according to Beckham, “it was quite a moment” to be “here at Windsor Castle, being honored by His Majesty the King, the most significant and regarded institution in the world.”

He told the PA news agency, “This is without a doubt my proudest moment.”

Victoria, Beckham’s wife, and other famous dresser, Victoria donned a grey suit made by her.

Along with his parents, Ted and Sandra, he was accompanied to the ceremony in Windsor, west of London.

Since the award was announced in June, Beckham has been known as “Sir David,” while Victoria, a former Spice Girls member, has been called “Lady Beckham.”

Beckham responded by asking if he had been able to speak with Charles during the ceremony by saying that Charles had been “quite impressed with my suit.”

He “inspires quite a few of my looks over the years, and he definitely inspired this look because he’s kind of the most elegantly dressed man I know.”

He continued, “I looked at old pictures of him wearing morning suits when he was quite young and I was like, OK, that’s what I want to wear,” he continued.

Beckham continued, “I’ve always been a huge fan of the monarchy,” and that receiving the award was particularly special for him.

To be given an honor like this, of a knight, is beyond anything I ever thought I would receive, he said. “I’ve been very obviously lucky in my career to have won what I’ve won and done what I’ve done.”

Beckham’s&nbsp knighthood is the product of years of tireless efforts to transcend football and become a global icon at the intersection of fashion, sport, and business.

After helping London host the 2012 Olympic Games, it was thought he might have been a knighthood winner.
