Fisher falls face down as Allen wins heavyweight rematch in fifth

In their heavyweight rematch at London’s Copper Box Arena, Dave Allen put the record straight with a decisive fifth-round stoppage victory over Johnny Fisher.

Points were tied at hand for Fisher’s defeat in the opening fight of the month, which many observers felt should have been given to Allen.

The 33-year-old Allen dropped Fisher with a barrage of powerful punches after a tentative start from both men on Saturday night.

After a vicious left hook and right uppercut, “The Romford Bull” rose to his feet, but he was immediately dispatched in an emphatic manner, falling face down on the canvas. The 26-year-old’s corner also threw in the towel.

Allen, who won his 24th fight overall, said, “This means everything to me.”

“I’ve been let down so many times. I was aware that I had the talent and skill set to be successful.

Fisher left the ring without giving an interview after receiving medical care.

Soon after, he expressed his opinion on Instagram by saying, “I wasn’t good enough tonight, but that’s what boxing is all about.”

Highlight reel stoppage for Allen

The endearing Allen was greeted warmly as he entered the ring, earning him the title of “the people’s champ.”

One of the biggest boxing tickets sellers in the country is Fisher, who is largely credited with his social media star father Big John and their “bosh” catchphrase.

With just a few empty seats at the 8, 000-capacity arena, which Team Fisher called “Copper Bosh,” the noise increased when he made his ring-walk to Take Me Home, Country Roads by John Denver.

As the game struggled to start on a high note, Allen was unable to land with his telegraphed overhand rights, and Fisher abruptly retreated.

After the referee called break, Fisher, who defeated Alen Babic in the first round at the same venue last year, received stinging uppercuts in the third round and received a warning for punching.

The raucous atmosphere in Saudi Arabia was strikingly different from the understated first fight in Saudi Arabia when the “Bull Army” was in full voice.

Allen patiently waited for his opening. In the middle of the fight, Fisher was sent to the floor by him with brute force and determination, just like he did five months ago.

Then, a highlight-reel knockout, which caused viewers to gasp.

Fisher left with a job rebuilding.

Fisher started his career with a number of impressive knockout victories after only a few amateur fights before transitioning to professional.

There are still significant doubts about Allen’s credentials at the domestic level, though, after such a devastating defeat to the veteran.

Meanwhile, trainer Jamie Moore greeted Allen as he left the ring with a beaming smile.

With his relaxed, refreshingly honest, and occasionally overly self-critical approach to the sport, the self-declared “Doncaster De la Hoya” – an homage to the six-division world champion Oscar de la Hoya – has gained a cult following.

He joked after the fight on Saturday that “I can now buy an en suite.”
