The new Fifa panel of 16 former players, which aims to support efforts to combat racism in the game, includes football legends George Weah and Didier Drogba, two of whom have been chosen.
A players’ voice panel was first proposed at the organization’s annual congress in Thailand in May 2024.
Former AC Milan striker Weah and former Chelsea forward Drogba have been added to the group, which includes players from 14 different nations, both men and women.
The panel will provide recommendations for anti-racism initiatives, take part in educational initiatives, and support reforms in the football industry.
Football “brings together and develops.” Weah, who has been named the panel’s “honorary captain,” added that it also strengthens humanity.
Because football is a way of life, I will always work hard, just like I’ve done in the past and still do. I consider it a privilege to perform this task.
Gianni Infantino, the panel’s president, stated that they would “support education at all levels of the game” and “promote new ideas for lasting change.”
They will continue to advocate for a change in football culture, making sure that both on and off the pitch, both on and off the pitch, are addressed to racism.
