Bruno Fernandes, the captain of Manchester United, retaliated against claims made by co-owner Jim Ratcliffe that some players were “overpaid” by saying it was not the players who were responsible for the club’s signed contracts.

Ratcliffe also praised Fernandes in a number of media interviews this week, saying that some of the United squad was “not good enough.”

In Thursday’s 4-1 win over Real Sociedad, the United captain scored a hat-trick to earn a place in the Europa League quarter-finals.

After Ratcliffe cited the signings of Casemiro, Rasmus Hojlund, and Andre Onana as examples of expensive deals made before his club, which United are still paying for, he defended his team-mates.

At this club, we can’t just relax. You are aware of the media’s high standards and attention that they receive, Fernandes said.

Evidently, it’s not pleasant to hear certain things. Nobody, in my opinion, wants to hear criticism or things that are said or done to you, that you are underpaid or something like that.

Everyone is bound by their own terms. The club agrees to execute the terms of your contracts when you arrive here or when you sign a new contract, or whatever, and it’s about you, demonstrating your worth to the club. ”

United’s only hope is the Europa League, which will help them recover from a terrible season so far.

The Premier League’s 13th-placed team, led by Ruben Amorim, is out of both domestic cup competitions.

Despite revealing that he had the opportunity to leave Old Trafford last summer, Fernandes reaffirmed his desire to win more awards as captain.

He continued, “I sat with the club because I received an offer to leave.” We discussed whether I might leave or stay at the club.

They demanded everything from me, they said. I just inquired as to whether or not they would still consider me a member of the club’s future. Erik Ten Hag and I also had a conversation at the time.

He stated that the club and I both believed that I would play a significant role in this reconstruction and that he was very clear with me. I believed we might have a chance of success. ”

  More Brunos are required

Fernandes has been criticized by one of his predecessors as the club’s captain despite his return of 15 goals this year as United’s stand-out performer.

In a recent press statement, Roy Keane claimed the 30-year-old was “not a fighter” and that “talent is not sufficient.”

The former Irish international, who won 13 major trophies for United, is a “massively respectable person,” according to Fernandes, who is hoping to persuade Keane.

What I’m doing on the pitch is trying to make him change his mind, Fernandes said, “I’m trying to do something that he probably finds to be good.”

According to Amorim, his country needs more Brunos to rediscover its former glory.

Six of Fernandes’ 15 goals this season have come in the last six games.

He is very significant to this team, I believe. He is always the guy who scores, as you can see from the numbers and these previous games, Amorim said.

You must be prepared for the critics when you play for this team, and I am aware that former players have had a lot of success here and that their expectations are sometimes seen as being in black and white.

Sometimes, there are other colors in life, and you have to understand the context.

He consistently gives his best, and I’m very proud to coach a player like him. ”
