The British number two was defeated by Jiri Lehecka 7-5, 6-2, in the quarter-finals, putting an end to Jacob Fearnley’s run to Queen’s.

After putting in a strong performance against French qualifier Corentin Moutet on Thursday, the 23-year-old put on his first last-eight match of the ATP Tour event.

On another hot day in west London, Lehecka, the Czech world number 30, proved too much for him.

Fearnley’s first break of the match had a promising start, but the world no. 60 immediately gave up after three double faults.

Lehecka broke the double break to take the set 6-5 before serving the set, which cost him even more in the end.
