Graham Linehan, the co-creator of Father Ted, allegedly harassed and harmed transgender woman Sophia Brooks’ phone. He has since appeared in court. He denies the accusations.

Graham Linehan, a co-creator of Father Ted, is facing a charge of harassing and injuring a transgender woman’s phone. Five officers immediately detained him at Heathrow Airport the following week as he returned from the US.

Before waving a sandwich board that read, “There’s no such thing as a transgender child,” Linehan posed for a picture for the cameras as he entered Westminster Magistrates’ today.

Linehan, a five-time BAFTA award winner, has denied the accusations leveled against him. After being charged with the alleged offences, which allegedly occurred at a Battle of Ideas festival on October 19, 2024, he has appeared in court today.

He stated in a statement that “this is part of a long history of the police acting as a goon squad for trans rights activists after being contacted by the Mirror about those charges earlier this year.”

Linehan is also the author of The IT Crowd and Black Books, two popular TV programs that survived cancer in 2018. He was honored with a lifetime achievement and published a memoir, Tough Crowd: How I Made and Lost a Career in Comedy in October 2023.

He has since claimed that his career and marriage have been destroyed because of his vocal criticism of the trans-rights movement.

It comes just days after Linehan said he was questioned by police over “joke” tweets he made about trans people. He said he was taken to a police station near Heathrow Airport following his flight from Arizona.

He stated in an email to his substack followers, “I just got arrested once more.” When I returned to London, I discovered that trans activists still run the police in the country.

Five armed police officers were waiting for me as soon as I took off the plane at Heathrow. Not one, not two, but five. I was taken to a private area and informed that I had been arrested for three tweets. The state mobilized five armed officers to arrest a comedy writer for this tweet (and no, I promise you, I am not making this up) in a nation where paedophiles avoid sentencing, knife crime is out of control, and women are assaulted and harassed every time they gather to speak.

“I actually laughed when I saw the cops.” I was unable to support myself. Don’t tell me! Trans activists have informed you that “the officers gave no reaction,” which was the theme throughout the day. There was a sort of polite bafflement among the upperclassmen. Completely professional and even kind, but the majority of the time had no idea what all of this was about.

He claimed he was examined by a nurse while he was in custody before being taken to the hospital because he was concerned for his health in his lengthy post, which also detailed his time spent in the prison cell.

He claimed that a nurse eventually came in and discovered that my blood pressure was above 200, typical for strokes. My life was literally threatened by the stress of being detained for jokes! After being under observation for about eight hours, I was taken to A&amp, E, where I am now writing this.

The doctors speculated that stress, long-haul travel, and a lack of movement were all factors contributing to the high blood pressure. I don’t think lesbians have c****, so I think it may have been a factor in the fact that I’ve been targeted by trans activists for eight years while working with the police on a dedicated, persistent harassment campaign.

Linehan has been placed on a bail until October, and according to his circumstances, he has been told not to post on X social media.
