Rob Page has been appointed as the Under-21 team’s head coach at Liverpool. Page was previously the Wales manager.
After leading his nation to the second round of Euro 2020, the 50-year-old was fired by the Football Association of Wales in June 2024 after failing to qualify for Euro 2024. He then led his nation to their first World Cup in 64 years in 2022.
After impressing as Wales Under-21 coach, Page, a former Wales captain who won 41 caps, became the senior national team’s manager. He has also coached at Port Vale and Northampton Town.
As young players look to bridge the gap between first-team footballers and academy prospects, according to Liverpool academy director Alex Inglethorpe, who added: “Rob brings a wealth of playing and coaching experience to a crucial role.”
His most recent successes speak for themselves when he helped Wales reach the last 16 of the Euro 2020 qualifying period.
“But perhaps less noteworthy is the work that occurred while he was in charge of the national team, which saw the inclusion of numerous pathway players in the senior squad.
