Ex-FBI Director Comey says he is ‘innocent’ after US court indictment

Following his indictment by a US court for allegedly making false statements and obstructing the course of justice, former FBI director James Comey claims innocence.

In a video posted on Instagram on Thursday evening in the US, Comey stated, “My heart is broken for the Department of Justice, but I have great confidence in the federal judicial system, and I am innocent. Let’s have a trial and keep the faith.”

Comey is accused of lying to the US Senate Judiciary Committee about an investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election, according to his 2020 statement.

From 2013 to 2017, Comey served as the FBI’s director before being fired by Trump shortly before taking office.

He has since become a well-known critic of the US President.

Following the release of the ex-FBI chief’s indictment, Trump published a celebratory post on Truth Social.

“JUSTICE FOR AMERICA” Trump wrote in the US on Thursday night.

The former FBI chief James Comey is one of the worst people this nation has ever seen, according to the US President.

Comey is the first person Trump has charged with indicting one of his numerous prominent critics.
