After being linked to a former team-mate’s drug case, England international Victor Radley will receive a 10-game ban from Sydney Roosters.
The Roosters claimed in a statement on Thursday that the 27-year-old had “allegedly obtained an illegal substance” and had discredited the National Rugby League team.
He will not be paid to play 10 games without getting paid, and the Roosters claim that this is the heaviest sanction ever imposed on the organization. The team will donate A $30, 000 (£14, 600) to a local hospital for cancer research.
Radley, who was not charged by the police, stated in the statement that “I fully accept the sanctions.”
He apologised to the club, my team-mates, our sponsors, members, and fans for the negative light I’ve cast on the Roosters.
“I’ll work hard to win everyone’s support for this wonderful club back.”
Radley’s father was an English-speaking man who was born in Sydney. He made the decision to represent England, and he has so far appeared in nine Tests.
He is still available for England selection, according to BBC Sport.
Brandon Smith, Radley’s ex-teammate, has played 13 Tests for New Zealand and is accused of providing drugs and providing inside information to illegal bets.
The South Sydney Rabbitohs hooker’s attorney informed Southport Magistrates Court on Thursday that Smith’s lawyer would file a lawsuit against him.
Since Radley was unable to play in the NRL finals last weekend, the Roosters will miss almost the entire season.
Between October 25 and November 8, England will play Australia in a three-test series.
