Heather Knight, an England batter, will miss The Hundred and will miss the rest of the summer due to a hamstring injury.
During England’s third T20 victory over West Indies on Monday, the 34-year-old former captain Knight suffered the injury.
In the 17-run victory over the batswoman, she was unable to take the field for the second innings because of her limp and struggled to run between the wickets at the end of her knock.
According to the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB), a scan on Tuesday revealed a “significant tendon injury to her right hamstring.”
A further three T20 matches and three one-day internationals against India follow the Windies series, which will host the 50-over World Cup in September.
Although the ECB has not specified a date for Knight’s return, it is optimistic that she will be selected for the tournament in September.
Before being fired in March after the humiliating 16-0 Ashes humiliation at the start of the year, Knight led England for nine years. One month later, Nat Sciver-Brunt, 32, took her place.
The team’s transition is officially underway with Charlotte Edwards taking over as coach for the first time in the ongoing West Indies series.
With unbeaten knocks of 43 and 66, Knight was in excellent form in her first series back in the batting ranks, which is a significant blow for England.
