The next welterweight champion contender, according to Leon Edwards, will be decided when he and Sean Brady square off in UFC London.
The Briton will fight on March 22 for the first time since Belal Muhammad’s UFC belt was disbanded in July.
Edwards, 33, was scheduled to face Jack Della Maddalena, but Muhammad was substituted on May 10 because of the Australian’s withdrawal.
On his YouTube channel, Edwards said, “If Jack goes out and gets a win, it’ll open up the division more. That’ll be the fight for me next.”
“The rematch occurs as well if Belal defeats him,” the statement read. The UFC has stated that this is a top-ranked contender fight, as I’ve spoken to them.
I fight for the title when I win.
Although the UFC did not want to remove him from the London card, Edwards said he had offered to replace Shavkat Rakhmonov, who had been injured, against Muhammad.
He continued, “It would be strange if Jack would headline London.”
