Swarms of people queued up and followed a red-headed man in a Manchester shopping centre over the weekend, insisting it was Ed Sheeran and took photographs, until they realise the truth
It is always excited if you are lucky enough to see a celebrity you really like, in real life, and music fans were left in awe over the weekend after they thought they saw Ed Sheeran in a shopping centre. Swarms of people surrounded the red-headed man and took pictures at Trafford Centre in Manchester on Sunday (October 12).
Videos shared on social media showed people taking selfies with the man and a sea of people followed him on The Dome level of the shopping complex. One fan shared a video on TikTok and said: “Ed Sheeran in Trafford Centre today.”
Even more crowds were seen when he entered the food hall area and he struggled to get through the packed crowd, in another clip. Security had to escort him down a grand staircase where a sea of fans were waiting for him.
One poster said: “Everyone definitely thought it was him, had a huge crowd and security too.”
However it turns out that it was not the real deal, but a really good lookalike.
Many rushed to comment on the videos, as one said: “I was there today and it’s definitely just a lookalike.”
Another commented: “It is NOT Ed Sheeran. He was mixed in with the crowd at Old Trafford this season, and I saw him myself a few months ago up close. He’s a perfect double and definitely not Ed Sheeran.”
“Poor lad just wants to do his shopping,” added one other.
While someone else said: “I feel bad for the people who took pictures with him not knowing it’s a lookalike.”
The individual spotted was not Ed Sheeran but a man named Ty Jones. The dad-of-one previously admitted that he looks so much like the singer that he often has to disguise himself when he goes out. He has been getting comparisons to Sheeran since he was a teenager.
Ty, who says he met Ed Sheeran in 2012, said: “After school, I was working in a bingo hall and I was getting lots of requests to appear at events as Ed Sheeran. Some of them would be offering me a whole month’s pay cheque – so eventually I started doing it full-time. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.”
The 30-year-old impersonator now travels across the UK as one of the most sought-after lookalikes.
