Martin Fowler, a market trader, was killed when the Queen Vic pub was torn to the ground on Thursday night in EastEnders.
Brave Martin proposed to Stacey Slater once more while he was rescued from her after he had viewers cry. After being lifted off, Martin appeared to be safe, but moments later, tragically, he suffered cardiac arrest and was unable to be saved.
In real life James Bye, the actor who plays him, is happily married to wife Victoria.
The couple share four sons Edward, 10, Louis, eight, Hugo, five, and Rufus, one, and live in Buckinghamshire. James, who turns 41 on Monday, and Victoria tied the knot in April 2012.
Two years prior to James’ casting win as Martin in Eastenders, the wedding took place. James, who previously only appeared on television in The Bill and The Great Train Robbery, could always count on Victoria’s support for his dream come true.
Victoria, 43, has also had acting roles – appearing in an episode of Spooks. She has now turned influencer, running the successful lifewiththebyes account with 110k followers.
The couple’s love story began when they first met in 2007. James “handed Victoria a fruit jelly” while working as a promo worker at Sainsbury’s car park. After that, he asked her out on a date to a nearby pub. They got talking.
The actor has described his wife as the “most loving, caring and selfless person” In a sweet birthday message for her 40th he said: “You are just incredible. The boys are unaware of your kind deed. Victoria I love you so much”!
Victoria revealed that the role was a “complete game changer” and that life before EastEnders was difficult. “James was a struggling actor, we lived in London, but we used to spend a lot time heading to Edinburgh doing the festivals, as he did a lot of theatre”, she explained.
James and his family had to relocate to London from Cheshire because their eldest son, Edward, was six months old when James joined EastEnders. James discussed family life and the strains of being away from Victoria and the kids because of the demanding schedules for soap production. “Family means everything to me and I’m always excited to get home,” he said.
The couple’s four boys have been a wonderful blessing as James and Victoria revealed she had struggled with endometriosis as well as “heartbreaking miscarriages, seeing fertility doctors &, 3 years of ovulation testing &, disappointment.. We’d honestly given up” they said on social media.
Victoria was present throughout James’ 2022 Strictly journey, dancing with Amy Dowden, and supporting his wife with her health struggles. James and Victoria remarried in St Lucia, a picturesque Caribbean island, in January 2023, to commemorate their tenth wedding anniversary.
