Broadcaster Eamonn Holmes has been open about being hit with a huge tax bill recently which has meant he has had to sell off his properties in order to afford it

Eamonn Holmes has taken a swipe at his former ITV colleague Lorraine Kelly. The GB News presenter branded Lorraine an ‘actress’ as he compared their costly fights against the tax man.

The 65-year-old TV star said that his row with the tax office has cost him more than £1million as well as having to sell two of his houses and he still owes £250,000.

In a furious rant, Eamonn has now claimed that Lorraine has gone through a similar ordeal but managed to swerve paying up. He explained that she managed to get away from the tax as she reportedly said she was just playing a part on TV.

Speaking about his tax worries, Eamonn told the Belfast Telegraph: “Lorraine Kelly is deemed to be freelance because she’s not really Lorraine Kelly.

“She’s an actress who plays the part of Lorraine Kelly, she said. And once you have a defence, you have to stay that defence.

“I couldn’t say, I would say, you know, I’m an actor who plays the part of Eamonn Holmes, except I’m not. I’m the same off screen as I am on screen. There’s no different persona with me. And that’s the way it is.”

The random swipe at Lorraine came as Eamonn discussed how much he owed the HMRC and how this has impacted his life.

He explained that the “thieving HMRC” came after him and said that he couldn’t be deemed as self-employed anymore. The HMRC then requested 10 years of tax and national insurance to be paid.

Eamonn said this came at the “most vulnerable” time in his life and has ultimately “wrecked” him financially. He went on to sell his house in Belfast as well as a property in Portugal and still has another £250,000 to pay.

Back in July it was reported that Eamonn had racked up a six figure debt to the HMRC. The presenter runs his company Holmes & Away which takes in cash from his broadcast jobs.

The Sun reported that the production firm has racked up a six figure debt. Figures uploaded to Companies House showed the firm was£22,850 in the red for 2024 which came after a £18,000 surplus last year.

Annual accounts showed the TV host had creditors of almost £150,000 to pay. He also has a Corporation Tax rebate of £39,173 paid by HMRC

Eamonn has also been going through back pain issues over recent years. He had spinal surgery in 2022 due to chronic back pain that had been caused by three slipped discs.

Eamonn said the ailment had previously impinged on his sciatic nerve and affected the mobility of his right leg. Over the last year, the veteran TV star has been seen using a walking aid and a wheelchair due to his reduced mobility.
