Nottingham Forest head coach Ange Postecoglou was sacked just 17 minutes after the side’s 3-0 defeat by Chelsea at the City Ground on Saturday.

Postecoglou’s tenure at Forest is the shortest-ever managerial tenure in Premier League history, 39 days after his appointment on September 9th.

Former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini is another potential replacement, according to sources who have informed BBC Sport that Forest have spoken to former manager Sean Dyche about replacing Postecoglou.

Postecoglou failed to win any of his eight matches in charge of Forest, with two draws and six defeats across all competitions.

Forest’s five Premier League games as manager saw Postecoglou earn just one point, leaving the team one point above the relegation zone on his departure and in the bottom three after the day’s later victories.

Ange Postecoglou has been relieved of his duties as head coach with immediate effect, according to a statement from Nottingham Forest Football Club.

“The club will make no further comment at this time”.

Additionally expected to depart Postecoglou’s staff, which includes Sergio Raimundo, Mile Jedinak, and Nick Montgomery.

Evangelos Marinakis, the owner of Forest, was present at Chelsea’s defeat, but he was pictured leaving his seat in the 67th minute.

He did not deliver the news to Postecoglou, with a senior club official instead telling the 60-year-old – although that is not unusual.

Postecoglou then bid his players adieu that his actions did not work and that he was unable to fulfill his duties.

Who will Forest follow?

Postecoglou’s departure means Forest are searching for their third manager already this season, having sacked Nuno Espirito Santo just three matches into the campaign.

Roberto Mancini and former Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini are two potential replacements for Postecoglou, who Forest have already made contact with.

Since Dyche’s dismissal by the Toffees in January, Macini has not worked while in charge of Saudi Arabia’s national side.

Mancini has Premier League experience, having led City to the Premier League title in 2012.

Although there have been discussions with Dyche, sources say there is no certain conclusion to be reached.

Marco Silva, the manager of Fulham, has significant internal support, but according to reports, his contract contains a “significant” release clause that would put an end to Forest’s challenge.

Postecoglou’s departure after 39 days in charge marks his longest reign under Les Reed’s belt in terms of days in charge of any permanent managerial position in Premier League history.

In Charlton Athletic’s 40-day tenure in 2006, Reed was fired after winning just one of his eight matches in charge of the entire competition.

Sam Allardyce, who managed 30 days in charge of Leeds United, was an interim appointment at Elland Road.

After overseeing four games at Selhurst Park, former Crystal Palace boss Frank De Boer still holds the record for the fewest matches managed by a permanent appointment in the Premier League.

In the Premier League, Postecoglou oversaw Forest five times.

The Australian was informed of his sacking after speaking to his players in the dressing room following the defeat against Enzo Maresca’s side.

Ryan Yates, a Forest defender, reported to BBC Radio 5 Live that “Ange came in after the game, debriefed the game, and then I ran, and I came back when the news broke that he had left.”

Analysis of “Never seen anything like it”

BBC Radio 5 Live reporter Lee Blakeman was waiting in the tunnel at the Forest Ground for post-match interviews when the news emerged that Postecoglou had been sacked.

In the 15 years I’ve covered football for the BBC, I’ve never seen anything like it, Blakeman said.

“He’s been sacked,” I said as I walked down the stands and entered the tunnel as I arrived.

” A statement dropped at the same time on the club’s social media channels.

“Down here, there was no other frantic activity. The dressing room was seen leaving by Ange Postecoglou. The media team were on their phones.

The players were escorted out of the dressing room to meet with club board members.

‘ Marinakis must take responsibility ‘

Alan Shearer, a former England captain, thinks Marinakis should bear some of Postecoglou’s guilt.

“Ultimately, the outcomes haven’t been good enough, and that’s on Ange,” he said. But the owner has to take some responsibility too. Shearer told BBC Sport, “He chose Ange, it was his appointment.

How does one go from being a manager in Nuno who has a certain style of play to being a manager who is well-versed in all of his teams?

Nuno guided Forest to seventh in the Premier League last season, having spent much of the campaign battling for a Champions League spot.

Forest recorded 46 goals in 38 games, which was the division’s joint-fourth-best defense.

Tottenham, in contrast, scored 64 goals to Forest’s 58, but conceded 65 more goals with a goal difference of -1.

“It was inevitable but I don’t think it’s right”, former Manchester City defender Micah Richards told BBC Sport.

A contrast of styles was always going to be a factor because he only got eight games, he said.

“Forest went from being one of the best counter-attackers to being more expansive, and it never worked.”

“Postecoglou is a good manager but it’s possible his media outbursts haven’t helped. He appeared to have the ideal fit, but more time was required.

The key question is now whether the next manager will be one-year or long-term. What are Forest trying to be – was last season a one-off?

During Postecoglou’s harsh rule,

When Postecoglou arrived at the City Ground, Forest were 10th in the Premier League and on the cusp of playing in Europe for the first time in three decades.

Marinakis praised Posetcoglou’s “highest level” and “his desire to create something special” as ideal characteristics for the club.

Postecoglou’s debut performance saw Forest lose to Arsenal 3-0 in his opening game, which was not a perfect start.

A poor start was cemented when Forest were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by Swansea City, when they threw away a 2-0 lead in Wales.

Draws with Real Betis and Burnley in the Premier League did little to quell the growing unease.

After Forest lost 3-2 at home to Midtjylland in the Europa League, a section of Forest supporters yelled “you’re getting sacked in the morning” toward the former Celtic boss.

Postecoglou was defiant after a 2-0 defeat by Newcastle before the international break, saying: “I love a fight” in the face of questions about his job.
