Drag Race UK stars deliver powerful performance in memory of The Vivienne’s best work

The Vivienne&nbsp, has been honoured by their fellow Drag Race UK stars.

Following their unexpected passing in January, the RuPaul’s Drag Race UK star was presented with a medal at the Metro Pride Awards. Remembering the icon on the night, The Vivienne’s fellow Drag Race UK star’s performed a dance in honour of their late friend. Cheryl Hole led the performance alongside Tia Kofi, Baga Chips, and Danny Beard.

Before the Drag Race stars lept on stage in remembrance of “The Queen of Drag,” Rylan Clark described the performance as a tribute to “all of their fantastic work.” A powerful emotional montage of The Vivienne’s rise to fame began when they first appeared on the MTV show in 2015.

As the audience at The Metro Awards tried their hardest to stop their tears from falling, the montage continued with some of their most recognizable moments, including their well-known impersonation of Donald Trump. The Vivienne’s Drag Race long-time friends walked on stage to give a powerful performance in honor of the late star before the montage ended.

Following their heartbreaking passing last month, The Vivienne received an additional posthumous Icon Award. The Vivienne, as we know it, was a true force of nature in the drag industry, breaking barriers and inspiring so many of us with their talent, wit, and heart, host Rylan Clark said while speaking on stage.

Simon continued, “Our legacy is a testament to the outpouring of love and grief that followed their passing.” To the UK DragRace Queens, in particular, Viv was a mentor and someone they could turn to for advice, “he said. Simon went on to say:” Theatre is where we saw their future. They would have eventually moved on to Broadway and become a major musical star.

“We must remember Viv as the warmhearted, positive and kind person that they were. One of the UK’s greatest drag stars and entertainers, Viv leaves a legacy. Her legacy and presence will forever be felt.

The tribute, performed by the stars of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK, was a touching moment as The Vivienne’s profound impact on the LGBTQ+ community was celebrated. Members of The Vivienne’s family accepted the award on their behalf, ensuring their legacy continues to inspire.

An inquest found that The Vivienne had passed away in their Cheshire home. The 32 year old performer, whose real name was James Lee Williams, was discovered at their residence in Chorlton-by-Backford, near Chester, on January 5.

At a recent hearing held on February 12th at the Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington, it was revealed that police had rejected any possibility of the death’s origins. Coroner’s officer Amanda Edgar stated: “Post-mortem testing has been undertaken, identifying an unnatural cause of death”.

The inquest, which lasted just two minutes, heard that the late star was identified by their father, Lee Williams. Given the unnatural cause of death identified by post-mortem testing, it is appropriate for me to formally open the inquest into James Lee Williams’ death, according to area coroner Victoria Davies. She stated that more inquiries were necessary, and the case was adjourned until June 30. Four members of the media showed up for the brief session.
