Donna Jean Godchaux, the star of The Grateful Dead, has passed away. The musician, who also collaborated with Elvis Presley and Cher, had been “fighting cancer for a long time.”

The late star’s family confirmed that she passed away on November 2 at a Nashville hospice. She was a sweet and warmly beautiful spirit, according to Dennis McNally, and everyone who knew her was grieving in pain. At this time of grieving, the family requests privacy.

May the four winds blow her safely home, lyricist Robert Hunter said. Before she left, Donna was well-known for her contributions to records like What a Long Strange Trip It’s Been and Wake of the Flood. She was known for her contributions to the band Grateful Dead between 1971 and 1979.

Donna was a member of Heart of Gold as well as the likes of Keith and Donna Godchaux when she was away from the group. She also co-founded the Donna Jean Godchaux Band, a self-titled band, in 2006.

She also sang on the late Elvis’s song Suspicious Minds and Percy Sledge’s When A Man Loves a Woman as a backup singer for the late Elvis.

Donna was also a part of songs that were made by some of the biggest musicians, including Cher, Neil Diamond, Boz Scaggs, Duane Allman, and others. She was born in Alabama, but she made the decision to relocate to California in the 1960s to pursue a musical career.

Before moving on to California, she met her future husband, Keith Godchaux, and they wed in 1070. She and Keith gave birth to their son Zion “Rock” Godchaux just four years later. Donna and David MacKay, who had performed with the Fiddleworms and the Donna Jean Godchaux Band, later got married in 1980.

After moving back to Florence, Alabama, where she was born, the couple recorded music at the Muscle Shoals Sound Studio.

Fans have since shared their condolences on social media, with one stating, “RIP Donna Jean Godchaux.” From the heart of my being, I’ll follow you. A second poem, “May the four winds blow her safely home… Rest peacefully in the care of Donna Jean Godchaux, a Grateful Dead member from 1971 to 1979,” is available. We applaud her for allowing us to experience her talent, beauty, and grace. I appreciate you joining the band.

“RIP Donna Jean Godchaux, the Grateful Dead’s female singer. She was my mother’s love. She and Keith were close friends with some of my friends, and I had a lot of inside information about them. Another depressing day in Rock n Roll history, said another.

Another song, “RIP Donna Jean Thatcher Godchaux-MacKay Helluva singer who performed with the Grateful Dead and, Elvis, and endured a sh** of misogyny, went on to be written: “RIP Donna Jean Thatcher Godchaux-MacKay Helluva singer.” “Tough, special lady.”

Donna’s husband, her sister Gogi Clark, her son Ivan Thatcher, her wife Molly, her son Zion, his son Delta, and her son Kinsan MacKay are all left behind.
