Dolly Parton’s Longtime Husband Dies At 82
Carl Dean, the country music star’s husband, passed away on Monday at the age of 82, the country music star said. Despite the singer’s chart-topping success, the singer’s marriage to Dolly Parton was kept out of the spotlight for almost 60 years.
Carl and I had many wonderful years together. Words cannot adequately express the love we have shared for more than 60 years,” Parton wrote in a post on X.
On the day she relocated to Nashville, Tennessee, the singer-songwriter and actor met Dean in 1964 outside the Wishy Washy Laundromat.
He was 21 and she was 18 respectively.
According to a post on her website, the “Jolene” singer, known for her glamour and gravity-defying hairdos, “I was surprised and delighted that he looked at my face while he talked to me,” she said.
She continued, “He seemed to be genuinely interested in learning who I was and what I was all about.”
Parton’s mother, the preacher, and his wife were the only ones who witnessed the marriage two years later, in a straightforward ceremony in May 1966.
The couple’s 58-year marriage, which ended with Dean staying away from the cameras, was a fitting start to the couple’s quiet wedding.
As his wife’s musical career propelled her into the position of “queen of country music,” the Nashville native found employment as an asphalt paver.
The couple lived a straightforward, quiet private life.
Parton stated in 2015 that “we like to just get out of our little RV and be simple.”
“I enjoy reading, cooking, and spending time with my husband.”
The couple has never been a parent.
According to the singer’s website, Virginia “Ginny” Bates and Edgar “Ed” Henry Dean were born in 1942. Parton affectionately referred to her as Mama Dean and claimed she was her best friend.
Sandra and Donnie, Carl Dean’s two younger siblings, are left behind.
