Dirk van Duijvenbode and Chris Dobey defeated him in a final-gasp decider to win the 17th Players Championship of the year.
The 35-year-old Englishman won the Leicester final with a stunning 8-7 score and a 70 checkout in the shootout.
Dobey won his seventh Pro Tour victory in 2025, making his second Players Championship win of his career.
Dutchman Van Duijvenbode had a higher average (102.4 to 98.69), but Dobey was much more patient in the outer ring, making 38.1% of his darts at a rate of 28.2%, which proved to be the difference.
In the last 16 of the tournament, Dobey probably put together his best performance, defeating Josh Rock, who recently won the World Cup, 6-3, with an average of 103.21.
He then defeated Gian van Veen and James Wade to make the final.
