After the 51-year-old quit last year, radio DJ Scott Mills is gearing up to take over Zoe Ball’s role on BBC Radio 2’s The Breakfast Show.

It’s likely that Scott, a 51-year-old man,’s salary for the stint will be made public as the BBC revealed how much their highest earners are getting paid. It was revealed Zoe was earning a huge £950, 000 a year. Scott was reportedly paid £450, 000 annually, which is a modest salary for the actor.

However, Scott has shied away from any discussions about his pay and revealed the minute pay packet he used to receive when he first started out as a radio DJ 35 years ago.

After her emotional exit (PA), Scott will take over Zoe Balls’ BBC Radio slot.

“I’ve been doing this since I was 16 and I’ll tell you how much I got paid then — £20 a show”, he told The Sun. A five-hour show was referred to as the show was running from 1 am to 6 am.

Although Scott acknowledges that there’s curiosity around salaries due to them being published by the publicly-funded BBC every year, he said: “I don’t think you can say that I haven’t played the long game. No one likes to talk about money, according to the statement, “It’s not like some hotshot’s turned up and is earning all this money.”

The radio host recently revealed that when he learned that he would be replacing Zoe, “irresembling tears rolled down his face.” Scott recalled: “I cried in my dressing gown and Sam was upstairs, I said, ‘ Sam, come downstairs, come downstairs. ‘ And, yeah, I fully sobbed”.

“It’s a massive gig and that isn’t lost on me at all. And also I think I’ve been on BBC Radio for 25 years”, Scott revealed. When I started to feel less sobbed, I had a real reflective moment, like, “Well, I remember being a little sad that I never got The Radio 1 Breakfast Show, but then if I had at the time, would I be where I am now”?

The star had previously been told by bosses that he would be given the same Radio 1 slot, but it wouldn’t work. Trevor Nelson will take up his previous slot, which was held from 2pm to 4pm.

Before presenting her final BBC Radio 2 show, Zoe broke down in tears last month. “We’ve had some tears already. We don’t quite know what to do with ourselves this morning, do we”?, she said as she kicked off the final show just before Christmas.

“We’re all pretending we’re going to be OK, that the emotion isn’t getting to us – but it’s definitely getting to us. So hold tight! But Richie, so many nice comments yesterday – made me blub my eyes out”!
