Dr Nora Jaafar explained why the beauty budget buy could help people experiencing the common problem

Primark is selling a £3.50 beauty item that could help people struggling with chafing. The retailer, which is known for selling affordable skincare and makeup, has many products available for under £5.

For people who experience chafing, Primark’s Anti-Chafe Body Balm may be worth considering. Available in-store, the beauty buy was recommended by a skincare specialist. Dr Nora Jaafar, a London-based dermatologist who has been practising with the NHS for 10 years and focuses on aesthetics and medical dermatology, recommended the product on social media.

Posting on TikTok under the username @dr.nora.uk, Dr Nora highlighted the balm. She told viewers: “For my runners out there, I know there’s loads of you. If you’re finding you’re running and getting all that chafing, you’re getting all that friction and red bumps.

“For £3.50, you can get this anti-chafing cream in Primark, but the reason I like it is because the vitamin E is an antioxidant and it’s repairing for your skin barrier, and the grapeseed oil is gonna provide a bit of slip when you run.

“So I don’t run, but maybe I’ll buy it for some of you.” The post proved to be popular with viewers, gaining over 1k likes.

Healthline states: “Chafing is a common skin problem caused by any combination of friction, moisture, and irritating fabric. Prolonged rubbing on the skin makes your skin sting or burn, and you develop a mild, red rash. In severe cases, chafing will include swelling, bleeding, or crusting.

“You’re more likely to develop chafing on body parts that rub against each other or your clothing. Chafing commonly occurs on the thighs and buttocks. The nipples, groin, feet, and armpits can also chafe.”

Treatments for chafing include avoiding the cause of the problem, getting fresh air, or applying a soothing balm. In some cases, a doctor may also prescribe a topical steroid. While chafing usually heals within a few days, it’s always a good idea to see a GP for any health concerns.

If you do opt to purchase a soothing balm or lotion, Healthline advises looking for fragrance-free products. You may wish to look for products containing vitamin E, which helps to maintain healthy skin.

According to Nivea, vitamin E is commonly found in skincare products. The brand’s website states: “Vitamin E, scientifically known as tocopherol, is a naturally occurring nutrient that plays a key role in maintaining healthy skin. Found in foods such as nuts, seeds, and leafy greens, Vitamin E is recognised for its antioxidant properties.
