On his bare-knuckle boxing debut in Manchester, Britain’s James DeGale defeated Matt Floyd unanimously to win.
DeGale, an Olympic gold medalist and former two-time IBF super-middleweight champion, won a scrappy battle with the judges who gave him the advantage of 48-43, 48-43, and 47-44.
The 39-year-old Briton headbutted DeGale and locked him in a headlock while using his jab to execute some of his best work in the fight, which led to three points for Australian Floyd.
It’s crazy stuff, they say. But I’m 1-0, DeGale said, and that’s all that matters.
He was tough, but he wouldn’t last for two rounds in a boxing match.
DeGale’s first fight since a humiliating defeat to Chris Eubank Jr. six years ago, which ended his career.
