Wimbledon 2025
Venue: All England Club Dates: 30 June-13 July
Defending champions Henry Patten and Harri Heliovaara continued their pursuit of back-to-back Wimbledon men’s doubles titles with victory over British pair Billy Harris and Marcus Willis.
Briton Patten and his Finnish partner Heliovaara came out on top 7-6 (8-6) 6-3 on another hot day at SW19 to progress to the third round.
They have now knocked out two British pairings in as many matches, with victory over Dan Evans and Henry Searle in round one.
Hunting a third Grand Slam title at their fifth major, the partnership is already proving to be effective, having only joined up in April last year.
They took one hour and 20 minutes to move past Willis and Harris, whose best run in the singles draw ended in the second round on Thursday, with Patten’s accurate overhead smashes and strong serving proving useful.
Patten and Heliovaara took the first set after a tightly contested tie-break before a break to love on the Harris serve was enough for the second seeds to see out victory.
Patten then partnered compatriot Olivia Nicholls to beat Argentina’s Andres Molteni and American Asia Muhammad 6-3 6-4 as the mixed doubles got under way at the All England Club.
The opening round featured plenty of British interest with success for Joshua Paris and Eden Silva as they ran out 6-4 3-6 7-6 (7-5) winners against Dutch pair Sander Arends and Demi Schuurs.
