Davina McCall has revealed how a painful revelation “changed my whole life” as it was announced she secretly married her partner Michael Douglas in an intimate ceremony last week
TV presenter Davina McCall admitted a heartbreaking discovery changed her whole life.
The 58-year-old, who secretly married her hairdresser partner Michael Douglas last week just three months after he proposed, was diagnosed with a benign brain tumour in November last year.
Davina says she underwent a memory test due to her life-long belief that she is stupid before going under the knife for brain surgery.
Speaking on her Begin Again podcast as she interviewed author Rob Parsons, she said: “I’ve always believed I was stupid. I did a memory test before I had my brain tumour operation.
“And they told me I was smart. I was 57 when I found out. It changed my whole life. So believing in someone can literally put them on.”
Davina tied the knot with Michael just three months after he proposed in Ibiza.
The couple exchanged vows during an intimate ceremony last Friday (December 5) in front of immediate family and their closest friends.
Sources told The Sun how the couple had a low key ceremony before attending a friend’s much larger wedding the following day – their first outing as husband and wife.
A friend told the publication: “Their wedding was perfect, exactly what they wanted. They chose a small venue close to their home, and just invited about ten of their friends and relatives to be there with them.
“It was very intimate and everyone who attended is very special in their lives.”
The source reported that the couple didn’t want to wait after Davina’s recent health scares. As well as her brain operation last year, Davina was diagnosed with breast cancer last month after finding a small lump.
The couple have been dating since 2018 having first met on the set of Big Brother when Davina was presenting the iconic reality show. Her other credits include The Million Pound Drop and Sport Relief while she has been a judge on The Masked Singer since 2020.
Michael is Davina’s third husband. She married Matthew Leggett in 1997 although they quickly divorced, and tied the knot with second husband Matthew Robertson, who presents Pet Rescue, in 2000. They divorced in 2017.
Davina credited her then-boyfriend with helping her through tough times after her brain tumour diagnosis.
She told her Begin Again podcast in February this year “I think it has been the most testing time for him, ever, to see me, who is normally ‘Mrs in control of everything’.
“I mean, beforehand, with the fear and everything brought us really, really, really close together.
“The amazing thing about him as a man, is that he’s everything. He’s strong, he’s soft, he’s funny, he’s serious, he’s really smart and super silly.”
